ZBC owes ZIMRA, Pension $1.6 m

zbcLogoHARARE - The state-controlled Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation owes over $1.6 million to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority and its workers Pension Fund.

We have a heavy debtors book of over $1.6 million of which at least 60% is more than three months old. We are afraid we will not get that money anytime soon given that people are resisting paying their listeners and viewers licences. The marketing team was busy this holiday sourcing advertisers for the forthcoming International Trade Fair, sources in ZBCs finance department told The Zimbabwean.

Due to its monotonous repetition of Zanu (PF) propaganda, people are refusing to pay radio and television licences, and most have resorted to satellite TV and radio. Despite the broadcasters failure to remit revenue to ZIMRA, its top management continue to enrich themselves.

The four senior managers, Happison Muchechetere – CEO, Tarzan Mandizvidza – General Manager News and Current Affairs, Retired Brigadier Elliot Kasu – General Manager Admin and Finance, and Allan Ndoro Chiweshe – General Manager Programmes, recently awarded themselves housing loans amounting to over $100 000 to build mansions in the luxurious suburbs of The Grange and Kambanje.

Besides the housing loans, the four each take home over $5000 per month, 1000 litres of fuel per month, a weekly $500 entertainment allowance and a monthly $2000 housing allowance. Reporters are paid a monthly salary of $750.
