According to ZIFA chief executive Jonathan Mashingaidze the association decided to increase the pay for referees as they were poorly remunerated.
“We felt our referees were not being well paid and I think this increase will help them to do their job professionally,” he said.
The referees are also receiving $200 for handling quarter final and semi final cup matches. The match commissioner is getting the same amount as the referee while the assistant referee is taking home $100 up from $50 for the same Premier Soccer League matches.
The poor pay for the referees had also been cited as one of the major causes of corruption by the man in black who have been accused of bias in their conduct of duties.
