MUTARE - Brain Chimwai, a police constable based at Chimanimani police station in Manicaland, is missing amid fears that he has been kidnapped.Sources at the police station told The Zimbabwean that Chimwai disappeared from the station two week ago and his whereabouts is still unknown.
Nobody in the camp knows where Chimwai is. He disappeared just before the Easter holiday. We have tried to search for him but all in vein. His relatives are also not aware of his whereabouts. Everyone at the camp is really worried, said a police source at the police station who refused to be named for fear of victimisation.
The resort town is abuzz with different variations on Chamwais disappearance with some people insisting that the constable was kidnapped by members of the Central Intelligence because of his good working relationship with the MDC in the area. Some police sources suggest that Chimwai might have crossed the border into Mozambique to join the gold rush in the Musanditevera area. Scores of youths have in the district have crossed into Mozambique in search of gold which is said to be in abundance.
Nobody really knows what happened to Chimwai. The day he disappeared he was drinking with friends. The guy was a nice person who used mingle with everyone in the district including MDC activists. Maybe this is the reason why he disappeared, said another police source.
