The Zimbabwean has it on good authority that Chibebe will take up a post with the International Trade Union Confederation in Brussels after the ZCTU congress in August. Matibenga, a veteran trade unionist, is incensed by the article which states that she is no longer eligible to contest for a position in the presidium because she has served two terms as vice president, according to the ZCTU constitution.
The journalist is obviously setting the agenda for the ZCTU. He is better placed as an activist. Let it be known that Lucia Matibenga has not stated her wish regarding the forthcoming congress, said Matibenga.
I have already served two terms as First Vice President of ZCTU. This means I can no longer contest for the post of First Vice President again. However I am still eligible to stand for the post of Second Vice President, Third Vice President or even as President of ZCTU, she insisted.
To make matters worse, the campaigns have not even started. Dates and venue for the congress have not been set. And even if dates were made available to the reporter by someone in the ZCTU, then such information has not been confirmed, said Matibenga.
