The victory pushed Nyasha Mushekwi’s premiership side closer to the league title with only three matches remaining before the league curtains come down.
Mushekwi grabbed the opener for Sundowns while another goal came from the boot of Mozambican international Elias Pelembe.
The match was earlier on dubbed Nyasha Mushekwi (Sundowns) versus Knowledge Musona (Kaizer Chiefs) but after 90 minutes of regulation time it was Mushekwi, who emerged victorious.
However, Musona remains the South African premiership top goal scorer with 13 league goals while fellow countryman Mushekwi and Katlego Mphela of SA are second with 12 goals apiece.
Mushweki’s Sundowns lies third on top of the Absa premiership but boasting a game in hand over leaders Ajax Cape Town and second placed Orlando Pirates.
Kaizer Chiefs lie fourth following the defeat in the hands of Sundowns.
But it is the race for the top goals’ scoring award which is so tight with two Zimbabwean internationals fighting for the golden boot of the year.
This is for the first time in the history of SA football to have strikers from one country, above all – foreigners competing for the first and second top scoring awards at the expense of locals. – CAJ News
