The likeable Zimbabwean forward, who is also among the leading scorers in South Africa, is a favourite to land the Cell C Player of the Season Award, which the cellular company is sponsoring in collaboration with a leading soccer publication.
Musona is neck-in-neck with teammate Jimmy Taurai Tau and a number of players from rival Orlando Pirates for the accolade.
Despite Sundays result, Kaizer Chiefs captain Jimmy Tau and Knowledge Musona are top of the Cell C Soccer-Laduma Player of the Season leader board. Close behind them is Andile Jali, who has been at the top for the best part of the three rounds as well Happy Jele and Tlou Segolela who battle it out for fourth place, organizers said this week.
The bottom five look all but decided as sixth-placed Thulani Serero is more than 500 votes behind Tlou Segolela. Katlego Mphela is in seventh place just five votes behind Serero. The only change in the five is that Siyanda Xulu has now dropped into last place behind Erick Mathoho, who was propping up the table for much of the round.
The Cell C Soccer Laduma award recognizes the stand out performer every season.
Musona has arguably been the best striker in the 2010/11 campaign, his second in the season. At 13 goals, he is the most prolific striker in a goal-shy league and is a firm favourite to land the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot Award.
The former Black Aces talisman is in line to win the Telkom Knockout Player of the Tournament Award after a scintillating run in the tournament. Chiefs won after beating Pirates 3-0 in the final at Soccer City earlier this year.
His exploits saw him named the Striker of the Tournament.
