Several projects that the MP has carried out in the former Zanu (PF) stronghold have been destroyed on the grounds that he is an MP for the MDC. I understand why the police refused to have the borehole rehabilitated; it is because of the politicization of all our projects. However, the borehole was designed to ensure that police officers and their families, as well as those who make reports at the station, have clean water, said Nezi.
Police officers around the country are under constant scrutiny from their seniors, who for the most part are aligned to the former ruling party. Many are afraid of accepting MDC-funded projects as they fear dismissal. Late last year Police Commissioner Augustine Chihuri ordered the transfer of 78 police officers at Avondale Police Station in Harare. They were accused of being sympathetic to the MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai.
In Murehwa several boreholes that were drilled using money from Nezis CDF have been destroyed. Zanu (PF) activists have even threatened to dig up roads that were repaired under the scheme, which has seen some schools getting computers, while others have been electrified.
Through the CDF Murehwa has advanced a great deal. We have carried out many developmental projects. Even though I do not know the people who have vandalized the boreholes my promise to the people of Murewa is that we are going to drill new boreholes again, because these boreholes help everyone regardless of political affiliation, said Nezi.
