One of the best movies of the 20th century, Charlie Chaplins The Great Dictator was filmed in 1940, a year after the start of World War II. This was Chaplin's first true talking picture and the first major feature film of its period to bitterly satirize Nazism and Adolf Hitler. It is also one of the funniest movies ever made, and such a pleasure to watch that you barely notice the seriousness of the message. At the end of the film, in a classic mistaken identify, the poor Jewish barber is thought to be Adenoid Hynkel, the Dictator of Tomania (both played by Chaplin), leading to a heartfelt plea from Chaplin himself for humanity and justice – considered one of the greatest speeches ever captured on film. A movie not to be missed!

Note that this event will be a FUND RAISER to help Hangani Meditation Centre in Chimanimani District to complete their shrine room and other buildings in preparation for the official opening of the centre in October.
