Cattle dipping chemicals such as Dipterex are radioactive and dangerous to the environment including human life. In the first place the dip tank was supposed to have a roof fitted to avoid radioactivity to take place. Animals dipped in the tank would also roam about in the fields posing a serious threat to both human and crop life. Any chemical drop from dipped beasts would damage arability of the surrounding farm land, said a local agriculture and animal expert.
Thirteen of the more than 15 families dumped at the dip tank, had their homesteads torched by Zanu (PF) thugs June 2008 and Hwenjere village after they were accused of being MDC. They were later dumped between the Horora dip tank and Horora Mountains.
The place is inhabitable as the soil is not suitable for agriculture. If they produce anything out of the land, they would live to compete with wild animals such as baboons and pigs for the harvest. Life is unbearable for the poor souls, said a local villager, Norman Mupazviriwo.
Mupazwiriwo said District Administrator, James Chiwaru, promised to relocate the farmers as soon as land was available. Surprising, recently top Zanu (PF) officials grabbed Dormavalle (Warswick) and Kanjiwa Farms but never considered the desperate villagers for relocation.
Most of the villagers were former commercial farm workers left without livelihood, following invasion of white owned farms by Mugabe supporters through the discredited Zanu (PF) land reform programme.
