We will deal with violence – MDC

mdc_logoHARARE - The MDC-T is set to launch a forensic investigation into the violence that that blighted the partys recent congress, amid allegations that top officials used money to muscle their way into powerful positions.

The names of suspected merchants of violence have already been submitted. The deputy National Chairman, Morgan Komichi, said his office would soon begin a nationwide campaign designed to ensure party supporters shun violence. Our first goal is to make sure that we deal decisively with people who were behind the Congress violence, said Komichi, but he refused to give the names of those accused of organizing violence.

We will get to the bottom of the matter and deal with the perpetrators so that we do not experience violence again, he vowed. The incidents of violence led to inevitable comparisons with Zanu (PF) but Komichi said such comparisons were unfair, as Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, the partys President, had repeatedly denounced violence.

The MDC-T has also accused Zanu (PF) of sponsoring violence and it remains to be seen whether the investigations will get to the root of the matter. Violence is one of the reasons that led to the 2005 split. Komichi was adamant that those found guilty would be disciplined without fear or favour.
