The Kambuzuma bred lyricist boasts five albums to his name, The Devotee, The Singles Compilation, double album Chatsva and Cum 2 Tek Ova, Mixtape Igofigo, and his latest offering 2011 Singles Compilation, which was released in February.
Unlike most urban groovers, such as Betty Makaya, PlaxedesWenyika, Roy and Royce, Gumi, Ronnie, Major Players, Mo VIP, Winky D aka Di Bigman has maintained his winning streak.
The 2011 Singles Compilation has kept him in the spotlight with hits such as TakaipaTakaipa (We are too hot), Tavharisa2010 (2010 Shutdown), Better Zimbabwe, and Messy WeReggae.
Jonathan Banda, Winky D’s manager greatly attributed the latter’s success to his record label and producer, whom he said has been very instrumental in the rise of the country’s King of Dancehall.
Winky D was nominated in three categories of the 2011 African Entertainment Awards which were held in Malaysia on April 2, namely the Best Mainstream Act of the Year, Song of the Year and Artist of the Year. He scooped the 2011 National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) and Best Album of the Year ahead of sungura heavyweights Alick Macheso and Kapfupi, before landing the People’s Choice award, earning himself the King of Dancehall crown.
