Zanu heavies grease new Chiefs palms

zanu_pf_logoZVISHAVANE - Newly installed Chief Mazvihwa has been showered with gifts by Zanu (PF) chefs here, a development understood to be aimed at whipping the aged leader into the partys line ahead of elections.

Top party officials, including Defence Minister and President Mugabes confidante Emmerson Mnangagwa, were conspicuous in their presence at the installation of the chief.

Mnangagwa was the guest of honour. Zanu (PF) Midlands deputy provincial chair, Larry Mavhima, led in the showering of gifts by giving the chief five ox-drawn scotch carts.

Murowa Diamond Mine weighed in with a gift of one bull and four heifers while platinum mine Mimosa gave a fancy stool.

Such people as Mnangagwa cannot just travel all the way from their homes at the weekend simply to congratulate a chief for being installed. Its all an election campaign, a source said.

The companies which donated, an insider said, did so in a bid to win the sympathy of Zanu (PF) and be treated with kid gloves in the controversial indigenisation drive.

In his speech, Mnangagwa said only those who fought the countrys liberation struggle would rule the country. Zanu (PF) has always used the chiefs as part of its election strategy.
