Support for the once-ruling party has waned in the province since the formation of the inclusive government withh MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai as prime minister. An investigation The Zimbabwean last week, found that Zanu (PF) youths had tampered with a footbridge which was recently commissioned by Dangamvura-Chikanga legislator Giles Mutsekwa under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Under threat: The footbridge commissioned by Mutsekwa.

The bridge was built to help residents and students cross the Nyamauru River after several drownings were reported in the high-density suburb. The epitaph, featuring the MPs name and the commissioning date, was scratched with a stone while part of the bridge was partially damaged. A concerned parent from Area 3 said the youths had threatened to destroy the bridge simply because it was an MDC-T project.

Members of the community have been taking turns to guard the bridge to thwart the culprits who scratched off the epitaph from further vandalizing the bridge, the parent said. The footbridge has been very helpful in the community. We have school-going children and it was a daily nightmare for them to go to school through Nyamauru River. At times the river flooded during the rainy season and many people have drowned, including a school-going child.
