Zanu thugs die mysteriously

zanupf_thugsCHIMANIMANI - Three Zanu (PF) activists accused spearheading political violence in Biriiri ward in Chimanimani during the run-up to the March 2008 elections died last week under mysterious circumstances. The youth ward Chairperson, Eunice Mukamba, ward chairperson Adam Tabarirevhu and Nyasha Chanuhwa all died recently.

Before his death Tabarirevhus stomach had ballooned under mysterious circumstances while Chanuhwa had developed a deadly tumour on his left cheek. Mukamba, who was at the helm of the Zanu (PF) youth leadership in the area during the run up to the violent June 2008 presidential run-off, died on Monday at her homestead after a long illness.

The deaths are now the talk of the area, with some villagers suggesting they are related to witchcraft.

Nyasha and Mukamba caused a lot of suffering to a lot of MDC supporters in the area during the election period. I remember during that time there was a Nanga by the name Gorimbo whom they thoroughly assaulted at a base after accusing him of being an MDC supporter. While in agony and pain, Gorimbo warned the Zanu (PF) youths that one day their past nefarious activities would catch up with them, said Joel Samboko, who was also tortured at the same base with Gorimbo.

The funerals of the three former ruling party activists were ignored by villagers. A source who attended Tabarirevhus funeral said a pastor from the Apostolic Faith Mission abandoned proceedings in the middle after Zanu (PF) supporters led by Jane Knight, the Zanu (PF) Manicaland Womens league chairperson, started singing anti-MDC songs at the funeral.

A lot of Zanu (PF) activists in the country who were in the forefront of torturing MDC supporters during the period leading to the elections have developed mental disorders.
