ZCTU to expose highly-paid execs

MUTARE - The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) is currently compiling a list of company executives earning fat pay-cheques, which they intend to release into the public domain very soon.

ZCTU national second vice president, George Nkiwani, said the union planned to expose all chief executive officers and company directors earning obscene salaries.

We want to name and shame some company executives who are being paid as much as $10,000 a month. Its time such rogue practices and perpetrators are exposed, said Nkiwani.

He said it was disheartening to note that on top of these enormous salaries, most executives were still showered with allowances.

The same executives are showered with several other benefits such as cellular phone, entertainment and school fees allowances, full cover medical bills and fuel every month amounting to thousands of dollars, lamented the labour activist, before calling for the downward review of the salaries and allowances.

We did the survey some time back and we now want to publish the names of the executives and their companies, he added.

Most ordinary workers are earning what he described as slave wages way below the Poverty Datum Line (PDL).

The survey also revealed that parastatals paid the highest salaries to their executives while also paying the lowest wages to ordinary workers.

According to the survey, Level One executives were getting as much as $11 540 per month, with benefits while a Grade 16 workers in the same parastatals were getting a paltry $154 per month, without benefits.
