Zim resources not for Chinesse – Matombo

lovemore_matombo3Harare - Zimbabwe's resources should be channelled towards projects that benefit Zimbabweans instead of being plundered by foreigners like the Chinese, Lovemore Matombo (Pictured), president of Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has said.

Matombo made the remarks in his address to guests and journalists at the commemorations of Africa Day in Harare. His statements come at a time when the Chinesse whose heavy dominance in all productive sectors of the country’s economy is celebrated by ZANU PF who invited the Asians at the behest of the party’s infamous so- called Look East policy.

The Chinesse have virtually taken over almost all avenues of opportunities for locals to actively participate in activities such as retail business through flooding the market with cheap but low quality projects while also grabbing mining claims ahead of aspiring Zimbabweans.

“Zimbabwe’s resources are and should be for Zimbabweans. They are not for Chinesse or any other foreigners to enjoy for a song,” Matombo said. He urged Government to instead use the resources in lessening the plight of majority Zimbabweans wallowing in abject poverty. Matombo noted that estimates point out that over 90% of the country’s locals are not in formal employment saying it is these masses that should be taken care of.
