The so-called business people of today, mainly from Nigeria and China, are not into production but retailing. They import substandard goods and sell them to poor Zimbabweans at affordable prices. Do we really need such kind of people to move the country forward? Can they add any meaningful value to the growth of our economy?
We don't want to continue importing goods from other countries. We can make our economy grow if we manufacture and export finished goods to other countries.
In 2008, our country became dry. Goods disappeared from shops and starvation took its toll. A few rushed to neighbouring countries to buy basic foodstuffs.
In February 2009, the government introduced the multi- currency regime. The business of buying goods from other and then sell them locally flourished.
Despite all that, nothing has really changed in as far as attracting investors is concerned. – Stephen Kandlela, by email
