The two countries, which are not the best of friends politically, will play a number of One Day International matches later this month and Starc told The Zimbabwean his team was eager to impress.
“I am really excited to head over and start playing and so is the group. We have been training for weeks now and we are really keen to play some cricket,” he said from Melbourne.
Australia A will play a one-day tri-series involving Zimbabwe and South Africa A. The team is expected to arrive in Zimbabwe on Saturday.
Cricket Australia said Jason Gillepsie’s knowledge of cricket in Zimbabwe would stand Australia in good stead. Australia’s cricket mother body earlier this month appointed Gillespsie, a former Midwest Rhinos head coach, as assistant coach for its A-side a tour of Zimbabwe.
“Cricket Australia feels this A tour presents a good opportunity to further enhance Jason’s elite coaching experience. Jason has recently coached in Zimbabwe and understands the conditions we'll face there. Many of the young upcoming players he'll be working with followed Jason's successful international career as schoolboys,” added General Manager Michael Brown.
