Gumbo fights individualism, wants players to embrace team work

rahman_gumboHARARE - The new FC Platinum coach, Rahman Gumbo (pictured), says he wants his players to embrace team work and abandon individualism if they are to win the
league title.

Gumbo, who marked his return to local football with his first match in
charge at FC Platinum when they beat old club Highlanders, told The
Zimbabwean
he wanted his players to be united and work for the team.

The Highlanders legend and former Zimbabwe coach quit his job at
Mochudi Centre Chiefs in Botswana to take over at the ambitious
Premier League debutants, whose coach Benjamin Moyo died suddenly in
April.
Gumbo has only been with his new team for a week. He said:
I have the nucleus of a good team here and hopefully we can push on.
I have not been in touch with Zimbabwean football for the past six
years I have been away. I still have a lot to learn. But I have
discovered there is individualism in the team. I want the players to
be united and fight for the cause of the team. That is the only way we
can win things for the team.

Platinum, bankrolled by Mimosa Platinum Mine, have recently
refurbished Mandava Stadium which they are using for their home
matches.
Gumbo is one of the most successful coaches in Zimbabwe after winning
two league titles with boyhood club Highlanders before leaving for
Malawi where he won the league title with Malawi Telecom Wanderers. He
then left for Botswana where he won the Be Mobile League title with
Township rollers. He was coaching Mochudi Centre Chiefs in Botswana
before joining the premiership money bags last week.
