The delegates were invited by the China Africa Exhibition Company, which offers management services throughout Zimbabwe.
In an exclusive interview with The Zimbabwean, Nigel Munyati of Pfumvudza Enterprises, one of the organisers, said the first China-Africa Hotel and Catering Fair in Zimbabwe July 22 -25.
CAEC usually organises trips to China but this time decided to showcase Chinese products for indigenous entrepreneurs in the hotel and catering industry in Zimbabwe.
Munyati is no stranger to the hospitality industry, having been the first indigenous Marketing Director for the then Sheraton Harare Hotel.
He said the Chinese delegation would include 20 officials from hotel equipment and manufacturing companies, 10 food processing companies, and 10 government officials.
“Our partners are the Beijing Glory International Cultural Exchange Company Limited, which promotes cultural exchanges, logistics and procurement support, exhibitions and event management,” Munyati said.
He said another partner was the Tianjin Exhibition Company, the official Foreign Trade Promotion Agency of the Tianjin Government Commission of Trade.
The General Manager of Meikles Hotel, Tinashe Munjoma said the hotel industry was booming.
“We are fully booked especially with customers from Copac,” Munjoma said.
“We have been receiving a lot of support especially from the entertainment industry and stars love our top hotel. Our standards remain very high as always, and we look for more and better support from everyone.”
On Wednesday night Munjoma hosted the annual get-together for the Zimbabwe Council for Tourism (ZCT) where VIPs rubbed shoulders and discussed the way forward for the once troubled hospitality and catering industry.
