John Chibadura’s legacy lives on

The legacy of late music icon John “Mr Chitungwiza” Chibadura will once again be relived as a high-powered cast of urban groovers has teamed up to pay him tribute.

Fast rising dancehall star King Shaddy, who became a household name following the release of his blistering hit Letter to Amai Huni, has joined forces with a tripartite panel of top-notch producers to honour the late legacy of the 90s hitmaker.

United Kingdom-based magnificent producer Jusa Dementor, Abra Simzz and CTU Studios worked magic on the instrumentation, blending exceptionally well with vocals of the impeccable lyricists.

The single is called Tribute To Chibadura sample’s Chibadura’s early 90s hit Zuva Rekufa Kwangu (the day I die). It was released two weeks ago.

The track joins an array of similar rendition songs done by youthful stars, such as Flash Back produced by Native Flash. King Shaddy, born Shadreck Kwarire urged artists of today to carry on the legacy of late industry heroes and heroines to future generations.

“I strongly feel that people are forgetting our music pioneers, and as an artist I felt it our duty as musicians to carry on yesteryear music of our fallen comrades to future generations,” he said adding that: “Starting in August, I will hold live shows in Chitungwiza in memory Chibadura. All proceeds from the show and royalties from the track will go towards his family.”

Chibadura, real name John Nyamukokoko died on 4 August 1999. At the time of his death, he was one of the country’s most celebrated entertainers.
