Mumiriki rose to fame alongside Sungura King, Macheso. He was performing at Galatic Night Spot when he had the stroke.
“At first I felt like my right leg and arm were gradually turning stiff. I did not suspect anything serious and continued performing until around 11 pm when I realised I could not stand properly or play the guitar any more. I have since recovered tremendously following medical treatment and physiotherapy. I hope to be back on stage soon,” said Mumiriki at his Chitungwiza home last week.
Since he joined forces with the talented bass guitarist and Mberikwazvo founder, Macheso, the popularity of sungura music has spread like veld fire. The band has staged successful shows in the region and European countries where Zimbabwean nationals have relocated.
