Makone denied access to voters roll

All her efforts to persuade her Zanu (PF) counterparts in the GNU to release the voter’s roll to MDC have hit a brick wall, says Theresa Makone, co-minister of Home Affairs.

She told the MDC peace rally here on Sunday that this was a clear sign that the roll is deeply flawed.

“I have said let’s have a look at the voters roll but that call will not be given an ear. If everything is well on that voters roll, why can I not see it?” Makone asked.

Her revelations come barely a week after Registrar General Tobaiwa Mudede told

The Herald that the voters roll is clean and anyone who wishes to inspect it is free to do so.

The RG’s department falls under Makone’s ministry, as does the Zimbabwe Republic Police. But she said Zanu (PF) was blocking her from making direct contact with the law enforcement agents.

“Zanu is refusing to allow me to go and inspect the police, but that is where I am going,” Makone said.
