MDC-N ward 13 councillor in Mangwe area in Plumtree, Emily Mkandla, Zanu (PF) provincial Secretary for Indigenisation Didizile Dube and Thandie and Mbuso Sibanda, children of the late Gibson Sibanda, appeared at an MDC rally in White City Stadium at the weekend.
Dube said undemocratic tendencies led her to ditch the party and join MDC which she described as a principled party.
“I was lost all over these years when I was with Zanu (PF),” she said. “The party has served its purpose – MDC is a party for the future. I wasted my time in Zanu (PF) and I am urging all my former colleagues in to follow in my footsteps.”
Mkandla, who joined the Ncube-led faction following the MDC split in 2005, said people in her ward had been asking her to consider leaving the party.
“There is nothing which the party has done for the people. I am glad that now I am back home. I know a lot of councillors who are also willing to return.”
At the rally, which MDC said was attended by more than 4000 people, Tsvangirai said he was pleased Thandie and Mbuso had fulfilled their father’s wish by joining the MDC.
“I know Sibanda, wherever he is, must be a happy man today,” he said. “He never wanted to see the party to split and now his children are back in the fold.”
