We will give you a Red Card, WOZA warns ZESA!

ZIMBABWE'S very vocal female body, the Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA) says the cash-strapped parastatal the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (Zesa) must immediately stop cheating fixed meter customers or face "unspecified" action soon.

WOZA, currently led by activist, Yenni Williams, says the association also "demands that ZESA should immediately install prepaid meters"

In a stinging statement which was deposited at Parliament Buildings in the capital, Harare, more than 100 slogan chanting WOZA members dished out white A4 sized papers saying ZESA must "Give power to the people – Hokoyo ZESA!".

They said they would give the cash-strapped government parastatal a "Yellow Card" before giving it the "famous" Red Card soon if their voices are not heard.

"Yellow Card from WOZA and MOZA," they said. "Hokoyo – ZESA you are the danger to our pocket".

The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) currently led by Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai, used to dish out "Red Cards" to current President Robert Mugabe and his zanu PF party, saying their time was "over" and the President must step down immediately from the helm of Zimbabwe's political and economic affairs.

WOZA, on the other hand, said they prefer to dish out the "Yellow Card" because it is just a "warning to ZESA".

"WOZA as a direct non-violent movement, mother of the nation will take action, we will not be silenced," they said in their white paper dished out to the public in the capital, Harare.

WOZA said ZESA must provide cheaper firewood, candles and matches.

"We do not want to destroy our environment by cutting down trees," WOZA said. "We are tired of 18-hour power cuts. Provide proper time-tables of load shedding. Urgently put in place a proper and transparent billing system. Stop sending metered consumers estimates, send actual bills".

WOZA said Zimbabweans should speak out when the House of Assembly Portfolio Committee on State Enterprises and Parastatals Management holds public hearings on ZESA.

"The committee seeks the public's views on ZESA's service delivery to the nation," WOZA said. "Contributions made will be considered by the Committee in compiling a Report to be tabled in the House of Assembly."

The female organisation said ZESA must create a smoother process of customer's claims for compensation as well as review recruitment policy and bring salaries to decent levels with "our current economic record". "Professional staff performance and honesty are needed," WOZA said.

"No more luxury cars, we need transformers. We will record the exact hours we receive electricity for the last two weeks of May (June) while we get petition signatures which we will table to Parliament and demand that they review your monopoly and poor service.

"You have cheated us for long enough. After we submit our demand to Parliament we will organise a 'Red Card Campaign'".

WOZA said these days "police mistakenly look at a petition to Parliament as opposing the State when it is a citizen's right to send a petition to Parliament".
