summit and demonstrate. (Pictured: Rugare Gumbo)

Zanu PF which has been planning to airlift its supporters to South
Africa for the summit said that the demonstration by the civil society
will not in an way sway the party from pressing for a fresh poll this
year.

Rugare Gumbo, Zanu PF spokesperson said that he was shocked by the
South African police move.

“They can demonstrate as much as they want, but the issues we have
raised as Zanu PF are going to remain. We were shocked that the South
African police can give MDC supporters permission to demonstrate and
yet refuse Zanu PF to also demonstrate on whatever they want. This is
unfairness which doesn’t help,” said Gumbo.

Last month aided by the Namibian police , the Zanu PF backed security
sector arrested civil rights activists in Windhoek at yet another SADC
summit.

The former ruling party has been pushing for SADC to discard the
election roadmap and stand by the Global Political Agreement (GPA) to
be used in an election that it insists should be held this year.

Gumbo, who outlined the issue of sanctions as the main source of
misunderstanding and conflict, said Zanu PF will stick the election
roadmap as enunciated in the GPA, adding that SADC must only
facilitate a home grown constitution making process that should pave
way for elections this year.

Zanu PF also wants SADC Summit to revise the Livingstone Communiqu
that it claims only reflects the position of MDC-T.
