The question that begs an answer is why Zanu (PF) wants elections this year so much? Why are they scared of following the election roadmap as proposed by SADC? Why is the soviet-style politburo afraid of having the institutional reforms carried out before the next plebiscite?
The falsehoods being peddled by the megaphone, Jonathan Moyo, in the public media and the internet that MDC is afraid of elections now because it is afraid of losing should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves. The MDC is prepared for elections any time as long the all the provisions of the GPA are met. Zanu (PF) has been
dragging its feet in fulfilling the GPA and should not point a finger at anyone. Zanu (PF)’s attempt to bulldoze elections this year is bound to fail and it’s an exercise in futility.
By roping in Jonathan Moyo who once said that Mugabe cannot win any election, shows how clueless the party is. Moyo an acerbic and virulent spin doctor and by looks of things Moyo has only managed to alienate his patron Mugabe from the very people he is supposed to be attracting.
Apart from the grumpy old man Mugabe, Zanu (PF) has no other candidate to mount a challenge against Tsvangirai. No wonder the spirited push to have elections this year whilst Mugabe – who by now should be somewhere in the Far East enjoying his loot – can still stand and campaign.
It’s tragic how time can beat even the strong among us into submission. For Zanu (PF) the bell is indeed tolling. – HASSANI HASSANI, London
