Tsvangirai made the remarks while addressing stakeholders at Town House this week.

“Local authorities are suffering and several of them underperforming because of too much government interference from their ministry. This situation should never be allowed to happen,” said Prime Minister Tsvangirai.

His words follow Chombo’s decision to fire several MDC councillors in local authorities on dubious grounds. Recently his Deputy Sessil Zvidzayi, accused commissions set up by Chombo to investigate ‘corruption’, of unfair dismissal of four councillors in Harare, the Bindura mayor, and councillors in Chinhoyi and Rusape where service delivery has been badly affected..

Prime Minister Tsvangirai added that if the country’s councils were allowed to operate without undue Government interference, service delivery would benefit.
