Fearful of criticism

At a recent prayer meeting, we were asked to pray about a lady who knew what God wanted her to do but was fearful of doing it because of criticism from most of the people.

God is constantly looking to see if He is Lord of your life. This is the way God works. It shows whether we have truly become his disciples. Remember Jesus said that to be His disciple we had to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him (Matthew 16:24). He is looking for living sacrifices (Romans 12:1,2).

Our reputation and honour are some of the things God asks us to relinquish. Some people call it “dying to self” or “the way of the cross” or “the work of the cross in our lives”. The seed has to be buried in the ground and die before it can sprout and become a new life.

I remember the story of Jesus spitting on the ground and making mud with the saliva and soil. Then He proceeded to put it the mud on someone’s eyes (John 9:6). What would your reaction have been had your “boss” done this? Disgusting? Filthy?Uncouth?

Jesus became of no reputation, was not esteemed in any way (Isaiah 53: 3). Jesus was not a man pleaser. He was a God pleaser. Jesus chose always to listen to and obey the Holy Spirit in all things. Jesus never tried to justify Himself or explain Himself.
