A housing development like those constructed in the Meadows suburb of Harare and Woodlands Park in Gweru will soon take shape along the Lower Gweru Road.

In an interview with the Zimbabwean last week, the Project Manager of Zimbabwe Housing Project Trust (ZHPT), Tanaka Mudimu, said they had already acquired the land on the outskirts of Gweru along Lower Gweru road.

"This will be one of the largest projects to take shape in Midlands Province in post independence era. We are looking forward to develop 5000 stands that will be a mixture of high, medium and low density patterns. It will be premised on a private and public partnership model advocated for in the national housing delivery programmes and policies."

He said ZHPT woull be working with various stakeholders including societies, cooperatives, NGOs and other various important communities in Midlands province.

The development comes after the successful completion of other housing schemes. Woodlands Park has seen over 1000 stands being serviced under the Public Works programme while Herfordshire is taking shape in the low density areas of Gweru where another 1000 stands are currently being serviced.
