Precious Shumba the co-ordinator of the trust said in an interview that the police failed to protect HRT members after they sanctioning the meeting, which was also attended by top government officials.

“The HRT intends to take the police to court for failure to protect residents at the residents convention held on June 25 at Mbare netball complex. Over 30 people were injured. The meeting was cleared by the police,” said Shumba.

The meeting was open to every resident to discuss service delivery matters, but Zanu (PF) hoodlums besieged the meeting and put an end to the meeting, right in the presence of the police.

“We have emphasized to members and leadership that our business should not be done on partisan lines. It is therefore a serious cause of concern, when a group of thugs descend on honest and unarmed citizens, some who are old enough to be their parents and grandparents attacking them with impunity, using booted feet, clenched fists, sjamboks and baton sticks,” said Shumba

Many, delegates including service providers and invited guests were left nursing serious wounds and substantive damage was caused to the hired property, the Public Address system, laptops, phones and other valuables.
