Grand Masters of high repute took part, including British Grand Masters Nigel Short and Jones, GM Smerdon David and GM Laxman Rajaram from Europe.
Makoto lost a drawn game against GM Smerdon after miscalculating that he had a mating combination. In the process he gained an important pawn but eventually lost the game.
Tinashe Tafira drew against GM Laxman Rajaram in round three with the white pieces before losing to Makoto, his countryman, in round 8. Makoto then drew his final game against the former World Junior Champion Harika Dronavali of India.
Tapererwa Uzeni lost his final round to FM Daniel Jere of Zambia to finish with 7,5 points. Tafira, IM Mamombe and Takawira finished with 7,5 points. The tourney was won by GM Jones of England together with Nigel Short with 9,5 out of 11.short came second on butcholtz.
Meanwhile Prince Edward will host a teams’ tourney for schools on July 30.
