The ex-whistleman is conducting refresher courses for match commissioners and referees for SA’s National Panel of Referees.

“Carlos Henriques and Felix Tangawarima are the two FIFA instructors conducting the course,” said Alpha Mchunu, chairman of the panel.

Mchunu said Tangawarima and Henriques would improve the standard of match officiating in the country and in the continent.

The 53-year-old Tangawarima is one of the best referees to emerge from the continent and has previously officiated at a number of Fifa competitions.

“I believe the Association is moving in the right direction in terms of the development of referees and match commissioners. It is very encouraging to see that we have people willing to be trained to help our game grow. We eventually want to see our referees delivering diligent services nationally and abroad. It’s exciting to see a number of young referees taking an interest in the field of refereeing as some of our referees from the National panel will soon be reaching their retirement ages,” he said.
