The 10-track album carries songs heavily loaded with lyrics of relevance to the current Zimbabwean situation – condemnation for the Zanu (PF) misrule that has destroyed Zimbabwe during the past 30 years and encouragement for forces fighting for the reversal of that trend.

In Shinga, the Durban-based musician encourages Zimbabwean pro-democracy forces to persevere despite Zanu (PF)’s continuing intransigence, while also blaming President Robert Mugabe for the social, economic and political crises that have bedevilled Zimbabwe for the past decade. He also urges unity.

The track Bumbiro emphasizes the need for the new constitution being crafted to come from the will of the people, not just a few politicians. In the powerful Anemamhepo, the musician blames the continued violence by Mugabe, security chiefs and other Zanu (PF) leaders on possession by evil spirits. He even offers that these key architects of violence need to be taken to specialists who will cure them of their demons.

Waruza Iwe predicts Mugabe’s downfall, where there will be no political violence, but Zimbabweans will live in harmony. “This is my own contribution to the struggle and I want people to have faith in those leading us on our quest to achieve the Zimbabwe we want,” said the Chipinge-born musician.

“Now is the time for us to combine our efforts and make sure that we are not swayed by fear and other forces that are inimical to the struggle for democracy, which is about to be won.”

Like his first offering, the latest album was recorded in Durban and produced by Themba Ncana.
