The two Kingdoms

There are two kingdoms in existence presently, the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan. Satan is the prince of this world (1), a spirit who now works in the children of disobedience and characterised by rebellion to God, selfishness, sin, darkness, earthliness etc.

The Kingdom of God is a spiritual realm where Christ is Lord, where the prince of this world has been cast out, and into this heavenly spiritual realm by new birth, through the Cross, born from above, believers now reside.

Jesus said that His followers are not of this world even as He was not of this world. There is a fierce and relentless warfare between these two realms, but for Satan to have any success at all, he must have his own ground. Therefore to rob Christians and the Church, he must in some way, at some point, get them on to his own ground, the “world”.

The basic object of our discipleship is to move from the kingdom of this world to abiding in and possessing the kingdom of God. So the School of Christ teaches us to deny ourselves, to take up our cross and to follow Christ (2).

We are instructed to let go the things of the world (3), the desires of the world (4), the deceitfulness of wealth (5) and to follow Christ.
