Funded by the UK Darwin Initiative, the aim of the event is to encourage people to learn more about leopards, the challenges they face from agriculture, hunting and tourism and the need to conserve them for the benefit and enjoyment of future generations.
We hope to have one of these magnificent animals on show at the Leopard Day, along with cheetahs for comparison, as their identities are sometimes confused in the field. Dr Viv Wilson of Chipangali Wildlife Orphange will speak about leopard habits and habitat along with other guest speakers from different parts of Zimbabwe, who will give talks on various aspects of leopard conservation and research and lead question and answer sessions.
The Zambezi Society will be launching its National Leopard Survey public awareness campaign encouraging the public to submit records of their leopard sightings since 2003, and Toyota Zimbabwe will be officially handing over their sponsored Leopard Vehicle to the Society.
