Ahead of the weekend, the Zimbabwe national under-17 and under-15 squads left for South Africa for the cricket South Africa-run Eastern Junior Club Cricket Association (EJCCA) tournament.
“This is a very important tournament for our boys especially the under-17s. It is part of a series of preparatory activities leading to the under-19 world cup and we will treat such events with the utmost significance,” said Zimbabwe Cricket’s National Development Manager, Nick Singo.
Zimbabwe will compete alongside four other countries, namely, Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland and provincial teams from the host country.
ZC meanwhile said Walter Chawaguta will be taking charge of the Under-17 team as the head coach, while Wayne coach the Under-15s.
The ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup is an international cricket tournament contested by national Under-19 teams. The event was initially staged as a one-off event in Australia in 1988, and has been held every two years since 1998.
