Any good news?

EDITOR - I know that many are jumping all over Eddie Cross for writing his positive piece about Zimbabwe and after all the devastation and pain of the last 11 years and more who can blame him for seeing a half full glass instead of a half empty glass and others for not.

Maybe he just looked around one day and saw all the blessing instead of all the curses. Have we Zimbabweans become so expecting of bad news and so negative that we simply cannot look on the bright side of anything? I think we have. And yes, there are still so many things that jar the soul in Zimbabwe.

Well, I want to add to something that is good. This year, in Zimbabwe, my husband and I have had two visitors from South Africa. The one who came in February had not been to Zimbabwe since our liberation war days and the other had never been here. It was his very first visit. He is a golfer and a professional green keeper and was ‘wow’ when I took him to Royal Harare. They both fell in love with our country. There are so many things that we can still give God thanks for. Despite our political turmoil both felt so safe in Zimbabwe, they loved the people and the general feel and ambience of our nation and the sheer beauty of their surroundings. And the weather! Well that was just too much. We have the best climate in the world.

Yes, we still have a long, long way to go and there is still a lot that is wrong and unacceptable but let us look at what we do have instead of always looking at what we don’t have. And let us have grateful hearts before the Lord. These two men enjoyed Zimbabwe so much that they want to retire and or work here. Doesn’t that make us think on what we have that we don’t see any more. Maybe your paper should consider printing a ‘good news’ article every week. – Nan, HARARE
