Baba naMai Patai back

Gweru-based Gospel duo, Epraim and Respina Patai, popularly known as Baba naMai Patai, have returned home after a three year stint in Namibia, brining with them a DVD of the famous album, Samulena.

The musicians rose to stardom in 2002 when they released a compilation album, Rumbidzwai, which had the hit Mazambara. The song topped the charts for more than nine weeks and was everyone’s favourite at ZBC’s Prime Gospel show.

It was in 2004 that the two released Makanaka, and then three years later they left the country to move to Namibia.

In an interview, Baba Patai told Sunday Buzz that they were back to stay and all their fans should get a copy of the latest DVD, Samulena. The DVD was produced by prominent recording company, Artisan Studios.

“We are in the process of reaching out to fans all over the country through live shows but in the mean time they can interact with our DVD Samulena which is a must-have for all Christians,” said the soft spoken artist.

He dismissed reports that their conflict with Gramma Records in the past over marketing and distribution of their two albums Makanaka and Mbiri Kunashe had forced them to relocate to Namibia.

“Our stay in Namibia had nothing to do with the squabbles with Gramma Rcords and we now need to focus on the future.”
