Chataika to revive late father’s career

Ronny Chataika, the son of the late legendary gospel musician Jordan Chataika, is expected to revive his father’s career by releasing a yet to be titled eight-song album at the end of this year.

After the death of his father in 1990, Ronny together with his two aunts Edna and Molly Chataika joined hands and continued with the band, but later disbanded following some challenges – mainly financial.

Chataika and his aunts last released an album in 2000, entitled Mushandiri Washe.

“Yes, I admit that we have been absent from the music industry for a number of years. But I can confirm we have set ourselves on a comeback campaign aimed at keeping the legacy of my father,” said Ronny in an interview last week.

“I expect to release an album before the end of the year. I am doing solo shows right now and working on a new album with the money that I get from the shows. My aunts will also feature on the new album as we continue to work together,” he said.

Ronny usually does shows in the capital and Norton but says lack of resources have been pulling him back. He said his fans should expect songs like Nguva Yakanakisa, Kuda Kwenyu Ngakuitwe, Rega Kuchema Chema and others on his new offering.

The late Jordan Chataika was one of the pioneers of gospel music. His career spanned more than three decades.
