"I decided to start my own company after serving in the fashion industry in Zimbabwe and South Africa for more than nine years."
The week-long event will be held from August 31 to September 3 at different venues around the city.
Chigariro told The Zimbabwean that this was the second year that the popular event had been held in Harare.
"Last year we faced many problems because I did not have any sponsors. I had to do all the funding myself," she said. “However, this year I am very glad to say that things have changed and I have many sponsors including the Zimbabwe German Society (ZGS) and Alliance Francaise (AF), among many others.”
This year's theme is ‘Environmental Awareness – Think and Live Green’. Chigariro said that the week would be attended by prestigious personalities from the fashion industry such as Thula Sindi, a South African designer, and Rui Lopez from Angola.
"We will also have international designers from Germany, Christine Wolf, and France, Nadega Cezette," she said.
French Fashion Desinger, Nadege Cezette, said that she loved Zimbabwe already.
"I am here for about three weeks and I hope to teach the young girls a few things here and there," she said. "I like the warm weather very much."
Chigariro said designers attending the Zimbabwe Fashion Week came from various areas around the country including from Bulawayo, Mutare and Harare.
They include young fashion designers such as Sindiso Sibanda (menswear), Yvonne Watadza-Alpharose (womenswear), Colin Ratisoi (men and womenswear), Terence Chipembere (The Tribe Called – womenswear), Caileigh Povall – Caileigh Colleen (womenswear), Bisma Ahmed (womenswear), herself – Chrome (womenswear) plus many others.
The Official Opening will be held on August 31 at the prestigious Joina City high-rise building in Harare.
