In a light-hearted mood at the launch of The Media Centre in Harare, Chamisa said: "When I received the invite to officially launch The Media Centre I first thought it had been sent to me by mistake.
"I though it should rather go to the Minister of Information and Publicity, Webster Shamu, since he deals with the Media".
Chamisa said he and Minister Shamu were "different people" and, therefore, there could not have been a mistake in the invitation from the organisers.
However, he said, The Media Centre, used various communication tools which could be said to be "Information technology" which his ministry handles.
Chamisa said it was thus relevant that he "officially launch the state-of-the-art facility".
This is not the first time that there has been some "complications" between the "information and communication ministry duties".
There are currently three ministers dealing with "information and communication" in one way or the other.
They are, Nicholas Goche, Minister of Transport and Communications, Webster Shamu, Minister of Information and Publicity, and Chamisa, Minister of Information and Communication Technology.
Chamisa and Ambassador Goche have haggled over the "communication" part of their ministries, querying who should, in fact, deal with actual "communication issues".
However, President Robert Mugabe, has regularly praised Chamisa as being "the youngest and best brains in his Cabinet right now".
Chamisa told the invited guests that he was "very happy" that his Cabinet colleagues were now "computer and ICT literate".
"I am happy that my colleagues can now use Lap-Tops and computers," he said at the function.
The Harare Media Centre operates as a neutral platform for Media and Civil Society interaction, information sharing and awareness raising through the provision of a secure space, information, access to communication technologies and training.
It is open to all Media workers in the private, public/State-owned Media, and freelance journalists including Media students and Civil Society Organisations (CSO).
The launch event was attended by more than 100 Media practitioners from across the journalism fraternity in Zimbabwe today.
Among the "Who is Who" included senior Media heavyweights such as the former Editor-in-Chief of The "original" Daily News, Geoff Nyarota, John Masuku, Executive Director of Radio VOP, Chris Chinaka, Head of Reuters in Zimbabwe, Andy Moyse, Director of the Media Monitoring Project of Zimbabwe (MMPZ), Sharon Hudson-Dean, Head of the US Embassy's Public Affairs Department, and David Masunda, Publisher of The Masvingo Mirror weekly newspaper.
