The first phase of a campaign to give the tourist town of Kariba a face lift has been completed, thanks to the hard work of the MDC-T youth.

The first phase focused on a physical cleanup of the area, this will be followed by several other phases that seek to deal with physical violence and corruption in the area. The locals also plan to address the bad press that the town received because of the divisive Kariba Draft Constitution that was drawn up there.

“We are supporting our youth in the Province to restore the resort status of Kariba to eventually attract investors back to Kariba and create employment for the youth,” said Greenwich Ndanga, Provincial Secretary of the MDC.

On Friday, the day before the cleanup operation kicked off, the discredited Mayor Hwindiri and a small group of Zanu (PF) supporters were seen at Nyamhunga calling for the disruption of the MDC-T youth cleanup campaign. He incited the police to arrest all organisers of the campaign, but nothing materialised.
