Mnangagwa denies Jaggers deal

In our issue of 2-8 June 2011 we carried a front page story headlined “Mnangagwa buys Jaggers”. Lawyers representing the Minister of Defence, Emerson Mnangagwa, have informed us that he has not taken over Jaggers and that Tongai Mnangagwa, mentioned in the article as the minister’s son, is not his son.

The lawyers further state: “Minister Mnangagwa is not involved in the gold and diamond trade.”

“He has not abused his office for personal gain as suggested in the article.”

“The suggestion that minister Mnangagwa was involved in the Matebeleland massacres is without basis.”

We hereby retract the allegations made, which we admit to be false and defamatory. We apologise unreservedly to the minister for the damage caused to his good name and reputation.
