The Sekumoshakele hitmakers, popular for their backbreaking dance routines and stage antics, return to Johannesburg for the first time in three years. Organisers of the three shows said the performances would coincide with the launch of their latest album, Ukuhlupheka Akulamnikazi (No one is exempt from trouble.)
“Mokis Connection are returning because of popular demand,” Patrick Sibanda, spokesperson of Livingway Music Promotions, the organisers of the shows, told The Zimbabwean.
The group is scheduled to play three shows in Diepsloot on September 2 before a date with their fans in Alexandra a day later and the Safari Hotel in Hillbrow on September 9.
The shows will feature performances by upcoming Zimbabwe rumba outfits Chauke and Honest Phiri.
Mokis Connction, led by the eccentric Themba Mathe on vocals, hails from Plumtree, where some of the country’s rumba music legends, such as Ndux Malax and Solomon Skuza, were groomed.
Albums such as Basiboy, Isifiso Sami, and Ziyaduma, catapulted the group to the top of the rumba music charts.
