He had a rook and a pawn versus a king and rook in a lucena position, which he easily converted to a win. His rival Tanaka Marwizi of St. Ignatious drew four games and won 5 to finish with 7 points.

His game against Tafadzwa Tomu was a lost one which Tafadzwa failed to finish a classical king and pawn verses a king. David Sithole of Hippo Valley was the first one to stop Tanaka before drawing against Tapiwa Gora and Douglas Biza of Prince Edward School in the final round.

Tapiwa Gora a lost to Brian Takawira of Mash West who lost to Biza and Marwizi. Takawira and Biza were tied on third position.Simbiso Ncube of Bulawayo was tied on first place with Wendy Kwava of Mash West who came second on bucholtz. They scored 7, 5 points out of 9 games of play. Linda Tshuma of Mat South came third with 6, 5 points.

Paidaishe Zengeni walloped all her opponents in the tournament. She was arguably the strongest player in her category. A technicality of her failing to record her final moves made her lose half a point. In second place was Whitney Kwava of Mash West followed by Tariro Mwandamberi of Harare who had 6, 5 points.

Paida’s toughest opponent was Chelsea of Masvingo who tired in the final stages of the game, which she eventually lost after putting on a brave fighting resistance. In the under 15 boys Victor Muchemwa of Bulawayo scooped it. Second place was Van Madanhi of St. Ignatius Mash East and Tichaona Hokoma of Gutu Masvingo came third.

In the under 13 girls category Charity Chiweshe of Mash West came first with 7 points and Cynthia Nyashanu of Midlands was second on bucholtz with the same points.

Kudzai Mukoriro of Mash Central came third with 6, 5 points out of 9 games of play. In the under 13 boys category Temba Forster of Masvingo came first with 7, 5 points out of 9 games. Takudzwa Goshomi of Midlands came second with 7 points.

Sifiso Ncube of Bulawayo came third with 7 points. Dylan Wiseman of Harare was tied on the tenth position with 5 points. Harare came first and won a floating shield followed by Bulawayo and Mash West.

Harare’s coach Victor Chimbamu was very elated for winning the second edition of the NASH National Scholars Chess Championships this year. Generally Bulawayo has improved vastly.

Moses Mutipforo the coach was very happy with the performance of the team. Next edition of the scholars will be hosted by Masvingo in April and Harare in August.
