Residents of Sizinda high density suburb told The Zimbabwean that the vagrants, known as “Izibhonda”, are invading their homes at night from the sprouting squatter camp.

“The vagrants have literally turned Sizinda road and the area near the fly over into a no-go area especially during the night. A lot of residents have been mugged and lost their property to the vagrants who are sleeping in the disused wagons,” said Samuel Dhlomo, a resident.

A security guard, Collen Moyo, was recently mugged along the Sizinda road while coming from work during the night.

“I was mugged near the flyover on my way from work. The muggers took my cell phone, cap, and US$10 before disappearing into the wagons,” he said.

The guard said the vagrants normally target workers who work at night.

“They lie in an ambush on the bushy area as early as 6pm and pounce on whoever passes by,” he said.

Police reportedly raided the area last week and arrested some of the vagrants.

One of them, Vincent Tshaba, has since appeared in court facing a charge of possessing 31 grams of dagga .When our news crew visited the area this week, one of the vagrants, who appeared to be mentally challenged, charged at this reporter, who was trying to take a photo of the wagons.
