Outside the church system

We were living in a small town in Zimbabwe. Over time I had become restless and dissatisfied with “Sunday church” and I felt as if I was dying from thirst.

One day I read “And He said to me. It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without price from the fountain of the water of Life” (Revelation 21:6) I knew there was more.

When Father first brought me out of the church “system” one of the things He had asked me was, “even if you are the only one, will you allow Me to teach you?” My immediate reply was “Yes Lord”.

After about a year of walking “alone” with Father on this learning journey, not always understanding why God had spoken to me but knowing and believing that He had, a friend of mine phoned me (she had gone against the wishes of her pastor by staying in contact with me having been told I was totally out of line and a heretic).

She invited me to join her on a course that was going to be run at the local church. I was so excited at being invited. But as I picked up the registration forms, Father spoke to me. I could have sworn it was in an audible voice – it was so loud in my ear: “Am I not your teacher?”

I nearly fainted with shock and fell onto my knees repenting. I had to tell my friend what had happened and decline the invitation. She was not happy with me, but I was more afraid (holy fear) of the Living God than of anyone else.

In His mercy and loving kindness our mighty God, about a month later, brought a couple to visit. They had been “out of the church system” for many years. We had the most wonderful time having church together, our common denominator being Christ. So although I’m on my own … I am not. I’m part of the body of Christ, and I’m so grateful I’m able to communicate with many brothers and sisters in Christ via email.

I would like to encourage you – if you are serious about the things of God and want to know and have a deeper walk with Father – then ask Him. The Holy Spirit will teach you, taking you on your own “learning journey” as you follow in obedience, hearing His voice and relying on Him. He is Truth and the truth will set you free. – Sonja
