Overhaul the laws – observer

Electoral laws need to be overhauled to meet international standards on holding free and fair elections, an observer said last Thursday.

In an interview with The Zimbabwean Joseph Baloyi from Southern Africa Electoral Support Trust (SAEST) said the inclusive government should have presented an opportunity for a democratic constitution.

Baloyi said the Trust was calling for the reformation of the electoral laws to influence the speed up of the process of a new constitution.

“All stages of the electoral process that include voter education, independent inspection of the voter’s roll and access to all media by political players must be managed in a fair and credible manner,” he added.
