Officials said the selectors would rest leading pace bowlers Umar Gul, Wahab Riaz, Tanvir Ahmed and spinner Abdul Rehman for the tour that includes just one test match, three one-day internationals and a T20 match.

The selectors have recalled pace bowlers Sohail Tanvir and Sohail Khan and retained youngsters Junaid Khan and Aizaz Cheema.

“We have decided to give the players who have done well in domestic cricket a chance to play in the national to see how they adjust to the top level," said chief selector Mohsin Khan ahead of the tour.

He added the senior players had not been dropped but had been rested for the coming tour.

“They will be considered as frontline players for our series against Sri Lanka and England later in the year.”

The selectors also picked uncapped batsman Rameez Raja jr and leg spinner Yasir Shah and recalled opener Imran Farhat.

Farhat has not played for Pakistan since the One-Day series against South Africa last October in United Arab Emirates.

Wicketkeeper Adnan Akmal returns to the squad and Mohammad Salman, who went to the West Indies, is dropped.

Meanwhile, the world cricket governing body, the International Cricket Council said while Zimbabwe had gained a single point during the past year, the team remained rooted at the bottom of the world rankings.

According to the latest ICC Reliance Mobile rankings table released this week, the team is ranked 11th out of 13 – with 38 points, one up from the tally they had at the same time last year.

The point is attributed to a solitary victory against Kenya at the ICC World Cup earlier this year.

Following the annual update of the Reliance ICC ODI Championship, Australia has extended its lead at the top of the table to 12 points, with Sri Lanka and India leading the chasing pack.

The side is looking to maintain its position in the table and was already building towards the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 which will be held in Australia and New Zealand.
